About
As a former dancer, Miranda Watson seeks to create classes that flow like a moving meditation while also incorporating pranayama/breathwork, meditation, and elements of yoga philosophy that deepen our sense of connection to the sacred within and around. Her classes emphasize healthy alignment by offering ways to modify and use props, and she creates sequences that thoughtfully prepare the body for deeper poses through exploring a diverse range of asanas/poses and movements.
Miranda seeks to hold space for students to step out of their thoughts and into their bodies, exploring an embodied yoga practice, encouraging them to listen to their body’s cues and honor the wisdom and teacher within. She guides students to process and release tension and stagnation in the body and mind so that prana/life energy can flow more freely, creating a greater sense of vitality, wholeness, and peace within.
In addition to teaching public classes, Miranda teaches workshops, an Intro to Yoga series, and helps teach YAM’s YTT 200-hour program. She teaches private yoga, specializing in adaptive practices for injuries and health conditions, as well as group privates for special occasions and events. She also teaches kid yoga at area schools. She feels honored to have taught people ranging from ages 3 to 89 years old. She has a deep appreciation for the benefits of yoga and strives to make yoga accessible for all ages and bodies.
Miranda has been practicing pranayama and meditation since 1994 and has had an asana practice since 2002. In addition to completing her E-RYT 500 yoga certification, she has completed trainings in yoga therapeutics and Ayurveda, and has taught over 1,500 hours of classes and workshops. She has also earned a BA in Anthropology and an EdM in Education.
Miranda enjoys living out in the country on the edge of the Pisgah National Forest with her husband, children, and pets. She loves to read and write about yoga, spirituality, nature, and the wonders and mysteries of the human experience. She enjoys working in the yard, meditating in her woods, and cooking seasonal meals for her family using produce from her garden. She also loves to dance, sit by a fire, hike, and take long walks with family and friends.
